Akimitsu Tendon Opens New Branch At Gateway Mall 2

Akimitsu Tendon

Legendary Tendon Shop AKIMITSU TENDON from Asakusa, Tokyo, has opened its latest branch at Gateway Mall Tower 2, Araneta City. The metro's fastest growing lifestyle hub and foodie destination has added yet another renowned brand to its list of dining options.

On Monday, July 22, 2024, we attended a "Tendon Party" along with other foodies and sampled what Akimitsu Tendon has to offer. The brand is steeped in 135 years of history, with the art of making tempura perfected through over a century's worth of experience.

Current Head Chef Akimitsu Tanihara is a 5th generation of tempura master, and he has shared his knowledge to our very own local chefs. Of course, we simply could not miss out on the tempura and ordered a Mixed Tendon Set which includes prawn and vegetable tempura on top of a bowl of steaming rice all drenched in their signature tempura sauce. The set comes with miso soup, a small appetizer salad and sliced fruit.

Everything was cooked fresh right in front of us, and the tempura came out with a light, crispy batter. The tempura sauce here is unique, in the sense that it is slightly different with more savory notes and less sweet compared to the tempura sauce that I am used to.

Upon hearing that Akimitsu Tendon is a 10-Time Gold Medalist at the Japan Donburi Awards, we had to try their gyudon and katsudon as well.

The donburi options came in at just under 300 pesos, which is very reasonable considering how the prices have sky-rocketed all over the restaurant scene in the country. The gyudon featured succulent cuts of beef that were not too fatty. I was pleased to see a raw egg yolk on top versus the cooked versions that we now often see in many donburi places.

Gyudon

I am a huge katsudon lover and was happy to find another reasonably-priced bowl at Akimitsu Tendon. The serving size was generous and the katsu was thick. I would have wanted the sauce to be a tad bit sweeter, but I am happy overall. Other places charge almost double the price for a similar bowl, making this a very welcome option.

They also have udon bowls topped with different options such as tempura or beef, plus a selection of other donburi. The extensive menu also includes some maki rolls, among which we tried the aburi salmon and spicy tuna. I particularly liked the salmon aburi roll, which is something that I see myself ordering again in the future.

Myeongdong Street Food Review: (Video) Seoul, South Korea

Fishcake Myeongdong is one of the most popular tourist districts in the center of Seoul, Korea. Located just on the foot of Mount Namsan and the famous N Seoul Tower, you can’t miss this area if you’re on a tour of the city. One of the big reasons for a visit? Lots of great shopping opportunities and a bustling street food market! In the video below, my friends and I try to sample as much of the food as we can. We  give you honest reviews of each item so that you’ll know what you can’t miss and what you can skip when you visit Myeongdong Street Food Market. Off the top of my head, I highly recommend: 1. Egg Bread (gyeran-ppang/gyeran-bbang). This is sweet and savory at  the same time. Think of it as a your morning pancake and eggs all in one. I even make it with bacon at home. Korean Egg Bread (Gyeran-ppang/bbang) 2. Steak: I can’t be sure if this is the highly regarded Korean beef (Hanwoo) or not. However, I can guarantee that the beef they sell on the street here is much better than

My friends and I enjoying the Oktoberfest party! Earlier this month, my foodie friends and I attended one of the special "Party Days to Remember" at Brotzeit Shangri-La @ The Fort, BGC. The band came all the way from Germany specifically for Brotzeit's signature party days which were held at Brotzeit BGC on Sept. 27 and 29, and Brotzeit Alabang on Sept. 28.  Wearing my traditional Dirndl and posing with The Anton Showband We could not help but to sing and dance as the band played traditional Bavarian music during the event. They got us to our feet and there were no strangers in the room as everyone interacted wi
