Kureji is redefining the Japanese dining experience, one sizzling bowl at a time and I got a chance to see what they have to offer! Since 2018, this innovative restaurant has been captivating taste buds with its signature Sizzling Ramen. This unique dish combines traditional ramen flavors with a theatrical presentation, served on a sizzling hot bowl to enhance the aroma and flavor profile.
Are you curious yet? My friends and I trooped over to Kureji at Ali Mall, Araneta City and sat down for a fun catch-up session over a carefully curated lunch spread. Of course, we had to try their signature Sizzling Tomato Seafood Ramen.
Sizzling Tomato and Seafood Ramen |
I was a bit skeptical about the tomato-based broth at first, fearing that it might taste more like pasta. However, the rich seafood flavor definitely came through, with just a hint of the tomato tang. The sizzling presentation was definitely interesting, and the interactive experience of timing the exact moment to pour the broth into the bowl made it unique. I like slurping my ramen piping hot, so the hot bowl meant that my ramen stayed warm longer. However, since I like having my noodles extra chewy, I don't recommend dilly-dallying while eating this ramen so that the noodles don't get too soft.
Sizzling Carbonara Udon |
Apart from the ramen, they also have sizzling udon and sizzling donburi. The Sizzling Carbonara Udon was a definite crowd favorite at our table! This fusion dish is obviously not one for the purists, but the combination of smooth creamy sauce, pan-fried bacon and chewy udon is something that the Filipino palate will surely enjoy.
Sizzling Cheesy Beef Curry |
We then tried the Sizzling Cheesy Curry Beef Rice Bowl. This is a one-dish meal with beef strips, Japanese curry and melted mozzarella cheese on rice. Mix it all up and enjoy the crispy rice bits that form at the bottom of the hot bowl. This dish is very flavorful and I could have almost gone for some extra rice to sop up all that sauce! They also have other donburi options like the classic gyudon and katsudon, and you can bet that I'll be coming back to try those as well!
Agedashi Tofu |
Karaage |
Beyond the Sizzling Ramen, Kureji offers a diverse menu featuring a range of Japanese favorites including sushi, kushiyaki, salads and desserts. The servings are generous and it's always a good idea to come here with a group if you like trying a variety of different things.
Volcano Roll |
The tempura deserves a special mention both for how good it tastes and how well it's made. We had the mixed tempura which is a combination of perfectly deep fried shrimp, carrots, eggplant, kanikama, cherry tomato and shiitake mushroom. Everything was perfectly seasoned and the batter was light and crispy. The dipping sauce was also perfectly balanced.
Mixed Tempura |
One should always leave room for dessert and I'm glad I did! I enjoyed the Sweet Potato Yaki Mochi a lot! The texture was more on the potato side versus the chewy mochi, but the creamy sweet potato was the real star!
We washed it all down with some fruity coolers because it was barely noon, but they also serve alcoholic beverages if you want to come for happy hour or dinner and drinks.
