Marugame Udon introduces new menu items and Suki Set

Marugame Udon
New Udon Dishes

Marugame Udon never fails to take me back to lovely days walking around exploring Japan. I first tried this restaurant accidentally as it was the first place we found when hunger struck us after walking endless miles around Himeji. I was delighted when the brand finally arrived in Manila a few years later, and I still have an eye out for their latest menu offerings.

My go-to order would either be the Sukiyaki Ninja Udon or the Beef Ontama Bukkake Udon. However, I’m always ready to try something new. Let me tell you about two new udon options that were recently introduced into the menu.

Tonkotsu Udon:

Freshly handmade udon noodles in creamy paitan soup topped with a scoop of creamy, tangy and mildly spicy karamiso (sauteed ground pork with special sauce). This dish is then topped with tasted egg, ear fungus mushroom and pickled ginger.

This dish is a reinterpretation of a paitan ramen using udon instead of the usual ramen noodles. I am always a fan of rich, creamy collagen-rich broths so this is a nice option for me. The toppings are generous and even a regular serving is quite filling.  A slight caveat though, use the ginger to cut through the richness but make sure not to mix it in with everything as the pickled flavor seeps into the whole dish. Put it on a separate plate before mixing up the bowl.

Price: Regular (P250), Large (P300).

Karamiso Beef Udon:

The second new item is made of freshly handmade udon noodles in the classic bukkake sauce topped with the same creamy, tangy and mildly spicy karamiso. Then, add in more meaty goodness with flavorful beef slices and bokchoy. If you are a fan of the Ontama Bukkake Udon, you will surely love this dish. I particularly love the sweet, meaty flavor in every bite!

Price: Regular (P265), Large (P315)

Suki Set

Of course, a meal at Marugame Udon is not complete without the sides. I typically grab a few tempura pieces but nowadays, especially for takeaway and delivery orders, we like getting the Omosubi Suki Set.

I want to say I want one of each but I really can’t finish eating that many. This set is good to share for a group since the rice balls are quite filling. My favorite from the set would be the Spam Omusubi followed closely by the Karaage Mayo Omusubi.

All items are now also available for delivery, making it very convenient for people like me who still don’t like dining out so often. Get your favorite Marugame Udon dishes delivered straight to your doorstep and thank me later. They have the udon soups packed with the broth in a separate container so the quality remains pretty good! Order now and let me know how it goes!

Myeongdong Street Food Review: (Video) Seoul, South Korea

Fishcake Myeongdong is one of the most popular tourist districts in the center of Seoul, Korea. Located just on the foot of Mount Namsan and the famous N Seoul Tower, you can’t miss this area if you’re on a tour of the city. One of the big reasons for a visit? Lots of great shopping opportunities and a bustling street food market! In the video below, my friends and I try to sample as much of the food as we can. We  give you honest reviews of each item so that you’ll know what you can’t miss and what you can skip when you visit Myeongdong Street Food Market. Off the top of my head, I highly recommend: 1. Egg Bread (gyeran-ppang/gyeran-bbang). This is sweet and savory at  the same time. Think of it as a your morning pancake and eggs all in one. I even make it with bacon at home. Korean Egg Bread (Gyeran-ppang/bbang) 2. Steak: I can’t be sure if this is the highly regarded Korean beef (Hanwoo) or not. However, I can guarantee that the beef they sell on the street here is much better than

My friends and I enjoying the Oktoberfest party! Earlier this month, my foodie friends and I attended one of the special "Party Days to Remember" at Brotzeit Shangri-La @ The Fort, BGC. During our visit, The Anton Showband was around to entertain us with their lively and engaging performances. The band came all the way from Germany specifically for Brotzeit's signature party days which were held at Brotzeit BGC on Sept. 27 and 29, and Brotzeit Alabang on Sept. 28.  Wearing my traditional Dirndl and posing with The Anton Showband We could not help but to sing and dance as the band played traditional Bavarian music during the event. They got us to our feet and there were no strangers in the room as everyone interacted wi
