Gyu Kaku Yakiniku Shangri-La Review: Ish Eats Japanese Grilled Meats

Let me get straight to the point, the food tasted great but nearly half of the menu items were not available when my friends and I visited GYU KAKU YAKINIKU in the East Wing of Shangri-la Plaza Edsa (Manila, Philippines).

Even the Asahi beer was not available. Luckily, they served us some reliable and high quality San Miguel beer.

As an appetizer, we ordered the Horense Salad. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the spinach that was meant to be used for this dish either. They ended up replacing it with lettuce instead.

After that, we wanted to try one of the set meals. Surprise, surprise, our server told us that several of the meat options included in the set meals were not available. Instead of availing the set menu, we were then forced to order a la carte.

So, after he pointed out which of the meats were unavailable (almost 50%), we finally chose large orders of the following:

Gyu Kaku Yakiniku
Karubi (USA): Php895.00

Gyu Kaku Yakiniku
Buta Karubi (Pork): Php245
Gyu Kaku
Chicken Thigh: Php175

We were given a choice between sweet, savory and teriyaki marinades. We tried all three and were quite pleased with the taste. Their sweet dipping sauce was also superb.

We ordered a second round of the pork and chicken but these took a long time to be served. Apparently they needed to marinate only upon order.

To accompany our meats, we ordered some Bibimbap. There wasn’t anything really special about this but it complemented the grilled meats perfectly.

Overall, the ambiance was nice and the servers were pleasant. Everything would have been so much better if the pantry was well-stocked and we didn’t have to compromise on our orders because nearly everything was unavailable.

Myeongdong Street Food Review: (Video) Seoul, South Korea

Fishcake Myeongdong is one of the most popular tourist districts in the center of Seoul, Korea. Located just on the foot of Mount Namsan and the famous N Seoul Tower, you can’t miss this area if you’re on a tour of the city. One of the big reasons for a visit? Lots of great shopping opportunities and a bustling street food market! In the video below, my friends and I try to sample as much of the food as we can. We  give you honest reviews of each item so that you’ll know what you can’t miss and what you can skip when you visit Myeongdong Street Food Market. Off the top of my head, I highly recommend: 1. Egg Bread (gyeran-ppang/gyeran-bbang). This is sweet and savory at  the same time. Think of it as a your morning pancake and eggs all in one. I even make it with bacon at home. Korean Egg Bread (Gyeran-ppang/bbang) 2. Steak: I can’t be sure if this is the highly regarded Korean beef (Hanwoo) or not. However, I can guarantee that the beef they sell on the street here is much better than

My friends and I enjoying the Oktoberfest party! Earlier this month, my foodie friends and I attended one of the special "Party Days to Remember" at Brotzeit Shangri-La @ The Fort, BGC. During our visit, The Anton Showband was around to entertain us with their lively and engaging performances. The band came all the way from Germany specifically for Brotzeit's signature party days which were held at Brotzeit BGC on Sept. 27 and 29, and Brotzeit Alabang on Sept. 28.  Wearing my traditional Dirndl and posing with The Anton Showband We could not help but to sing and dance as the band played traditional Bavarian music during the event. They got us to our feet and there were no strangers in the room as everyone interacted wi
