Noor Modern Mediterranean Restaurant BGC: Review
Mediterranean cooking has a reputation for using simple, high quality local ingredients. The food at Noor reflects the same philosophy. My friends and I passed by this small restaurant one afternoon as we were getting ready for a long night out around Bonifacio Global City.
We started our meal with some hummus and pita bread. It was a nice touch that they added some whole chickpeas to the hummus. Nothing extraordinary here but it definitely hit the spot.
The next appetizer that we had was a real revelation. The cauliflower was deep-fried and dressed with caesar aioli and parsley. I swear to God you can almost forget that you’re eating vegetables. I highly recommend this dish.
Another surprising dish is the Lamb Baklava. Most Filipinos are more familiar with the sweet baklava. Instead of having baklava for dessert, this is a savory dish that quickly became my favorite from the Noor menu. The lamb was perfectly seasoned and the pastry was flaky and crunchy at the same time. The chef was able to avoid getting it too oily, which is often the case with meat-filled pastry. A must-try!
In true Mediterranean style, we needed to have some seafood. For this particular afternoon, we had some mussels with fries. Who knew these two went together well?
The last item we tried is the chicken taco shawarma. Instead of a wrap, this shawarma is served open-faced like a Mexican street taco. This was also very good. It’s slightly different from your usual shawarma, but the addition of salsa and tahini made the flavors even more interesting.
Of course, we washed everything down with some Hoegaarden beer! The food really went well with the light, fruity flavors of Hoegaarden White.
Rating: 4/5 stars
I’m docking one point only because the servings are fairly small. It’s clearly not going to be a steal to dine here but at least you know you are paying a premium for great food.
