Fat Daddy's Smokehouse is Where You Need to Spend Your Next Cheat Day
Make no mistake about it, when you come to FAT DADDY’S SMOKEHOUSE, you will eat a lot. Start that diet again next Monday. We tried out their newly-opened branch in UP Town Center and enjoyed a late afternoon feast of their best dishes.
APPETIZERS
Just the smell of the smoked meat wafting from the kitchen is enough to whet your appetite. However, that’s not an excuse to skip the hefty appetizers from FAT DADDY’S SMOKEHOUSE.
The Hot Pork Poppers look like strips of bacon that are battered and deep-fried. How can you go wrong with deep-fried and battered pork? Right from the get-go, its very clear that this isn’t a meal for weight watchers.
The Buttermilk Fried Livers were a surprise hit. Even those who were not fans of eating livers really enjoyed this dish. The rich taste of the chicken hearts and livers really worked well with the crunchy batter and dipping sauces.
The Crispy Fried Pickles didn’t just serve as great appetizers. They were also the perfect accompaniment to the heavy, meat laden meal. The tart pickles cut through the richness of the meal whenever the palate called for it.
Among the appetizers, the crowd favorite was Jera’s Ultimate Pulled Pork and Bacon Nachos. Bacon+Pulled Pork+lots of cheese that formula is a definite winner. This hefty serving of nachos can be a meal in itself.
Since we were at Fat Daddy’s SMOKHOUSE, we could not miss trying out their selection of smoked meats. Our group had the Smoked Meat Platter which had the following: smoked hot links, smoked pulled pork shoulder, smoked beef brisket, smoked chicken barbecue and smoked pork ribs, Chiquito’s grilled corn, bacon and chives muffin, sesame coleslaw and 4 servings of plain rice.
This platter was more than enough for a table of 6 hungry foodies. We were not able to finish it but that didn’t mean we didn’t try our very best. I personally prefer wet marinated barbecue but despite the dry rub that they use here, all the meats remained tender and flavorful. Fat Daddy’s also has their own bottles of barbecue sauce which you can use to douse your meat in if you like a wet barbecue. Among the contents of the platter, the hot links and beef brisket were my favorites.
If you’re dining alone, don’t fret. There are other options. You can chose to order set plates of the meat served with a choice of mashed potatoes, Texas dirty rice or plain rice. Alternatively, you can also go for their tacos or burgers.
We tried the Triple Death Burger which had two quarter pound beef patties topped with tomatoes, lettuce, onions, cheddar cheese, bacon strips and pulled pork. All of that is drizzled with a chipotle mayo and BBQ dressing. Yup, it’s not a light option either.
Since you’re already going all out with your meal, keep going with some rich desserts and milk shakes. We loved the Pecan Pie, Peach Cobbler and the Bacon and S’mores Dip.
The milkshakes were rich and creamy but they were not overly sweet. I thought I was full but the cold, creamy drinks were surprisingly refreshing. I swear I could have finished two of them!
No joke, I went into a food coma after this meal. I could not have asked for a better way to spend the day!
