Admiral Premiere Hotel Bangkok Review: Ish Meets Thailand

Traveller rating: 4/5 Very Good

Description: 4 Star Boutique Serviced Apartment

Rate: THB 3,599 per night (US$105.5)

Location: Sukhumvit Soi 23, Bangkok Thailand, 10 minutes from the BTS Skytrain and Bangkok MRT underground station. (Asok Staation), Very near Terminal 21 Mall and Soi Cowboy street (popular nightclub area).

Highlights: My friends and I booked a studio room with extra bed for triple occupancy via Booking.com. We were pleasantly surprised to learn upon arrival that we have been upgraded to the GRAND ONE BEDROOM SUITE at no extra cost!

Because there were three of us, we really appreciated the extra space. We had one King bed and an extra single bed set up in the living room next to the couch.

The room had a large counter area where we were able to set up our laptops and other electronic devices. Because of the upgrade, we were also able to delegate wardrobe areas for each of us so that our belongings were organized.

There was a kitchenette with a large refrigerator and breakfast nook, which proved to be a useful space where we stored our snacks and purchases from the markets.

The bathroom was a good size and it had a bath tub. It was also a great bonus to have a bidet for the toilet! Small victories, yey!

Bathroom

The only downside would have to be the balcony. It was tiny and the air conditioning vent was there so it wasn’t really a great place to hang out. On the upside, there was a washing machine there. This was very useful for us since we were able to wash our clothes after a full day of touring under the hot sun.

Moving on the the hotel’s facilities, the lobby was nice and accommodating even though the facade is really quite unassuming. The staff was always friendly and helpful.

One of the best things about the hotel is the restaurant at the ground floor. The SHISO DELIGHT offers a mix of traditional Thai Cuisine and Western favorites. This is also where the daily buffet breakfast is served from 6:30-10:30 am and a set breakfast until 2:00 pm in case you didn’t wake up in time to catch the buffet.

We were also very happy to discover the set lunch menu which goes for only THB 99-149. That’s between US$2-3 for a choice of Pad Thai, Chicken or Pork with Thai Basil and Rice, Fish and Chips or Spicy Aglio Oglio Pasta.  The meal also comes with a choice of seasonal fruit smoothies. What a bargain!

We arrived very early for check-in and tried out the lunch sets. For a hotel restaurant, the meals were cheap and the quality was superb!

The Pad Thai was great but we devoured it before I thought of taking a photo. I guess that’s testament enough.

Moving on to the hotel’s amenities, there’s a tiny gym on the roof deck. It’s enough if you really just want to put a workout in after having way too much Thai food. It’s almost never full anyway so the size isn’t really an issue.

The gym also overlooks the pool. If you ask me, I would much rather burn my calories swimming laps than running on the treadmill. The roof deck pool at the Admiral Premier Hotel is divine. In fact, this is one of the reasons why I booked this hotel in the first place. It offers sweeping views of the Bangkok City skyline. During sunset, the changing hues of the sky offers a uniquely relaxing experience.

The downside? There was non bar by the pool. there’s nothing better than enjoying a cocktail while relaxing by the pool so it was quite a bummer that they didn’t have a bar here.

Also, the pool was slightly too warm for my me. It’s the peak of summer and we would have enjoyed swimming in cooler water as a respite from the extremely warm weather. The water also tasted slightly salty. I’m not sure if it’s saline treated vs. chlorine treated causing the unusual taste. It may or may not be an issue depending on your personal preference.

Another slight setback was when the air conditioning vent started to leak on our final evening. This is probably because we never turned it off even if we were outside. In any case, the staff was very accommodating and helpful when we reported the issue.

Overall, I would highly recommend staying at the Admiral Premier Hotel the next time you find yourself in the city.
